This home has a beautiful
view of the mountains all around (spectacular
colors in the Fall!) The 16.4 acres include a
wooded hill great for hiking, and a large open
field which could be subdivided to offset the
cost of this property. There is a large area
cultivated for gardening and a compost system in
place. A large, old, 2 story barn has room for 2
cars and workshop and equipment space. There is
also a separate utility shed and a small
greenhouse, both detached. Beautiful lawns
surround the house. A circular gravel driveway
has 2 entrances on Rte. 2, the main route
through northern New England. The house is
flanked
by 2 large pine trees--swing included. Other
trees in the yard are Beech, Maple, and Apple.
The gardens include many perennials and
raspberry and blueberry bushes.
The house was built as a
schoolhouse in 1900. Some original hardwood
floors remain. in 1943 the house was converted
into a family home and has always remained in
the same family. The house has been updated many
times and is typical of Vermont farmhouses.
There is a full, cement-floored basement with
bulkhead entrance, cold cellar, hot water oil
furnace (less than 10 yrs old) and Culligan
water softener. The house has baseboard heat,
new wiring and an Artesian well.
The glassed in porch extends the full width of
the house in the front and faces the mountain
across the valley floor. The Winooski River
flowing through this valley is a 2 minute walk
from the house. This porch is not heated but in
warmer weather it is an excellent place to
entertain and is a summer dining room. The
downstairs includes a large kitchen featuring an
attached semi-circular table seating up to 4, a
unique pull-out pantry unit, refrigerator, new
glass top stove, and double stainless steel
sink. The roomy, updated bathroom has tub/shower
and washing machine. There is a living
room/dining area, small office-type room with
closet and small bedroom. A back entrance comes
through a mudroom which includes dryer, freezer,
and many shelves. the upstairs includes 4
bedrooms and a half bath. The full attic
provides great storage. New siding was put on in
1995.
This home is delightful country living, 20
minutes from the state capitol, 45 minutes from
the Ben and Jerry's ice cream plant, and 1 hour
or less from excellent skiing. |
