AGRICULTURE
Alberta is "Cattle Country", and the County of Brazeau is no exception. There are over 600 farms in the area, the large majority of which are cattle operations.

There are also many purebred cattle operators with international reputations. 65% of the agricultural developments are valued between $200,000 and $1,500,000, with 85% of the farms with land up to 600 acres.

OIL AND GAS
Oil and gas exploration and development have long been the lynchpin of the County.

Oil was discovered in 1953, about four miles from what is today, the Town of Drayton Valley. Over the years, over 8,000 oil wells have been drilled, and more than 300 new wells are drilled annually. At the present time, these oil wells produce 71,000 barrels per day of crude oil, and 14,000 barrels per day of natural gas products. The TransMountain pipeline system delivers this production to the Edmonton terminals for refining and sales.
